Fiona

When you think of people do you think of a color? If you have a friend who always wears blue, when you think of them does blue come to mind? Well I have a lovely friend here named Fiona and when I think of her I think Purple. She’s a very colorful person, she doesn’t always wear purple but she does wear it often. She redecorated her home last year and what’s the feature color? Purple. I wanted to make a pair for her last year but I had no purple beads. She picked another pair I’d already made and she loves them. Since then I have gotten purple beads but I had no idea what to do with them.

I’ve been having another creative streak over the past two days. Sunday my husband turned on the soccer so I went into a different room to watch political shows from back home. I made a few pairs while I watched. Then Monday I was updating some old designs and while putting my supplies away a style came to me, and these happened.

One of many patches of crocuses in our yard

Monday was a lovely day so I went outside to take pictures of the new earrings. I was going to publish a different pair this week but when these came about I knew I’d have to do them first. It looks like spring in our front yard and these earrings match the Crocuses. And since February’s birthstone is Amethyst (which is also purple) I wanted to get these out before the month was over.

The purple beads feature a marble type effects, traces of white swirling around them. In the center there is a iridescent glass bead with a swirl effect on it. Those three beads are separated by small purple iridescent beads. The findings are silver plated, and can be replaced by kidney wires or clip on if you’d prefer. They hang about an inch and a half from the ear.

This seems like a good time to make an announcement. The journey is making another stop. Once again at the village hall in Wraysbury on Saturday March 18th from 10am to noon. I’ll have the newest designs on hand as well as some old ones and some remixed designs. So put the date on your calendar and I hope to see you there. Remember, you save shipping costs when you buy in person. And there may even be a few surprises.

Loose Ends

Bits & Pieces Pt. 3

The fair is this weekend and I’ve been spending a lot of time getting ready for it. I’ve been putting all my earrings, or most of them, on a card then writing the blog post they are from on the card. I thought that I’d written up all the earrings I made so far but it turns out there were still a few that had been left out. That doesn’t mean they aren’t nice.

Amelia

This first pair I’ve featured similar ones on two different posts; Beady Eyes and A few of my Favs. I’ve made this style in several different colors using different beads as the centerpiece. My favorite one is the silver one. I have to admit I’ll be sad to see them go but I can always try to make another pair. I may have made this style with different colors but I have to admit the marble effect bead is really nice.

Londyn

Next is this lovely little blue number. I made them the same time I made my wedding line  but when it came time to post the earrings I wanted to keep them all white so I didn’t post these. I had them sitting out ready to be written up and then I forgot I hadn’t posted them. I guess I thought I posted them with Something Blue. They really are sweet.

Dionne

Finally, this pair is fairly new. I made them the same time I made Karen’s Orbit, so I guess I thought I posted them together. When I went to check the other day and saw they weren't there I couldn’t believe it.

Taken from WPG's fb page

Hopefully the fair will be a success on Saturday. It's called the "Indoor Carboot Sale" and it will be at The Wraysbury Village Hall from 11am -1pm this Saturday (Sept 17th) admission is £1 for adults,  free for children. There will be food, prizes to be won and giveaways. I'm really looking forward to getting the foot traffic and having more people see the earrings in person. If you're in the area on Saturday please stop by, it would be lovely to meet some of the people who read the blog, or follow us on twitter, facebook or Google+.

Odds & Ends

Bits & Pieces pt. 2

When I told my mother that I finally got a stall at a fair she told me to make as many earrings as I could and just sell them. I did have a day when I was pretty productive but mostly I’ve been trying to tie up loose ends. This week I’m putting up a few more pieces that I had laying around as well as some I made since last week.

The first pair I made last fall when I was experimenting with recycled materials. It combines my love of crafting with my love for music. I was making plastic circle designs and decided to try a G-Clef. This is the only pair of these I ever made. I think I had intended to make more but then I got caught up in my Christmas inventory and forgot about them. They are rather nice though!

The next pair is also from my recycled material trial. It show my fascination with spirals. Really, if you look at my stock there are a lot of spirals, swirls and curls. I’ve done them with craft wire, sheets of HDPE that I treated and then curls and now these. I won’t say what they are in fear that people might cringe but let’s just say it’s something most of us use every day, at home they used to advertise missing people on them. Nowadays they are made of plastic, I guess the Amber Alert put made it redundant.

The next one I hinted to last week. I got these red beads a while back and I decided they reminded me of cranberry juice. So I decided to make a pair based on one of my favorite drinks, also it could be based on my mom’s favorite drink (minus the Cointreau). These are vodka and cranberry with a twist of lime or Cosmo (Cosmopolitan). Well, I guess when you mix up the vodka, cranberry, lime and Cointreau you end up with a lovely pink concoction but Vodka and cranberry with a lime twist is too long of a name for a pair of earrings.

On Thursday I was panicking about something so I decided to make some earrings to take my mind off of it. This pair I just made, however they are based on the first pair of earrings I ever made and the first to appear on the blog  you can read the story about them. Over the past year I’ve acquired a lot more hematite; some magnetic and some not, some blue and some gray, some shiny and some chiseled. These are a little different from the originals but they are in the same spirit.

Now, what can I say about these? A few months ago I purchased a kit of glass beads, I wrote about it wrote about it then . I really like making earrings that are a bunch of different sized beads that dangle. The great thing about this kit is that it consists of shiny and matte beads. I love using a mixture of both when make a pair with them. I like grapes, but only white (or green) grapes which these remind me of so I’m calling them a Bunch of Grapes.

I was inspired by the last two pairs on a walk with my husband  last week. We were walking through our village on our way to pick up our Chinese food dinner. I saw this adorable curl with a little “bump” on the end or along the curls. I think that eventually the “bumps” will blossom into flowers but I’m not sure. I asked Neil what it was and he didn’t know. I think however that the curls were on some kind of vine, and last week we also passed some vine weed which I thought was beautiful, I never would have thought it was a weed. So that’s what I’m calling them; Vine Weed.

This is your last chance to get these before the fair.

Something old, Something new, Something borrowed…

Something Blue!

I’m getting married in June! I don’t think I’ve mentioned it on here before. I’ve been trying to get the things mentioned above for the wedding. I’ve got something new – the dress. Something borrowed - I’m getting married on my grandparents’ wedding anniversary and I’m going to borrow a ring my grandfather wore on their wedding day. I've even been given a six pence for my shoe by my lovely fiancée.

My cousin gave me a set of champagne colored pearls for Christmas when I was 18, and I always thought that would be my something old. I told her when she gave them to me that I would wear them when I got married. But last month I bought my wedding dress and guess what? It doesn’t match the jewelry. So now I have no something old.  I also have no jewelry! Fortunately the neckline of my dress is jeweled so I really don’t need a necklace. I do however need earrings!

I thought since I’ve been making earrings for the past 8 months I should make my own. We saw a broken chandelier available on a giveaway site but by time we saw it someone had already claimed it, too bad it would have been perfect for making the earrings. So I’ve been on the lookout for beautiful crystals and beads. The other day we came across packets of blue beads for sale. I thought I’d try to find some to match the wedding. After all our wedding color is blue, Celeste or Sky Blue.

So yesterday I sat down and made these three pairs. At first I thought maybe I’d make earrings as part of the favors for our guests, but not all of our guests are women and what would I make for the men (Yes, I know men wear earrings too but not dangly ones like I make, this is after all the Dangling Journey).

All of the beads in these earrings are glass. Some are frosted, some have a marbled effect and one of the pairs has a faux pearl.

SOLD

I also tried something I’ve never done before. I made three “strands“ of beads to go on each earring. Each strand is different in color combinations, the types of beads in that color and length.

I may make a pair for my mother to wear once she gets her dress if it matches any of the beads I found.

SOLD

Since these designs have taken more materials, more time and more effort they will be a little more expensive than my usual offers. But they are after all worth it! These are handmade earring made of glass beads and they are beautiful!

With all the preparations for the wedding coming I may not get around to posting earrings every week. But stay tuned! I still have some designs in the backlog waiting for their time to shine. So if I get a moment I’ll post them. And of course after the wedding I’ll post pics as well.

Dark Blue left only.

Black & White Teardrops

I made these months ago, but they’ve been sitting in my little caddy waiting for the spotlight. I’m really into the black and white combo; it is classic after all.

This pair is a combination of recycled materials and repurposed beads. The upcycled plastic has been shaped into a teardrop or pear-shaped hoop.

They’re light to wear. They’re also unique. I’ve only made one pair so get them while you can.

Miss Match

Easter Eggs

Neil and I went out a few weeks ago to a small town in West Sussex called Steyning. We went to a charity shop (of course) and they were selling a jewelry kit with very nice green glass beads. There are different types; some clear, some frosted, some green and white swirled and some that were a darker shade of green. I thought ‘This is amazing!’ and it wasn’t a lot so we bought it. I start trying to make earrings, and guess what? There aren’t two of everything! There are some beads that there are several of. They featured in last week’s spicy numbers.
So this week I decided to make a miss match pair. These earrings are made of the same two beads, only I didn’t have two of the same shape and shine of each. So each pair contains one matte and one shiny bead. In one pair the shiny one maybe the round bead, while in the other the oval shaped bead is shiny.

I really love these beautiful green glass beads. I am going to have loads of fun making earrings with them. I just hope you all have just as much fun reading about them and coordinating how to add them to your jewelry box.

Muy Caliente

As soon as I saw these glass beads in the shop I had to have them. To me they look like little jalapeño peppers, which seemed like the perfect thing to dangle off the end of a pair (or two) of earrings.

The same place I got the pepper beads I got the red beads. I’m excited about these beads too.  These are the first real red beads I’ve gotten.
Relleno

I know, maybe I should have saved this design for Cinco de Mayo, but I just couldn’t wait. But publishing them now means that YOU can have them in time for the celebration.

Just in case you were wondering I named these two after my favorite Mexican Restaurant at home and my favorite Mexican dish.

MS Awareness Month

Get Your Orange Out!

It’s MS Awareness week! I’ve been supporting MS charities since my mother was diagnosed with MS seven years ago. But I also had three aunts, a cousin and a good friend who have (or had) MS.
The color for MS awareness is orange. So for years I’ve been wearing orange this for this week in March. The other year I got a wristband, so I wear my orange every day. But last week when I posted the new colors I’d done in my favorite style my mom “I need some orange ones!”

Now I didn’t really have any orange beads. I did have some stones but I went to another charity shop and picked up some beads which just happened to be orange. I made two different styles of earrings.
This first one I’ll call Cathy since it’s the one my mom likes and I’ll be sending to her. They are bright orange beads that look like natural stone (but I don’t think they are), and they are accompanied by three small stones “stacked” – as my mom said, on top of the large stone. I believe the small stones are actually real natural stones. They are textures and unevenly colored, if they are fake they are very good fakes.

The second pair I’ll call Samentha after my good friend from college. We lost touch after our first year when we both transferred to new schools and we just got back in touch through Facebook a few years ago. This pair is a deeper amber-orange, it has a large stone-like bead at the base and is topped with alternating beads; gold-plated, natural and gem beads.

Now while one pair of Cathy is spoken for I do have enough to make another pair. I have one pair of Samentha made and I also have enough to make another. So get in touch soon to make sure you get these natural beauties.

More of the Same

Last week I showed you my favorite pair of earrings. I have a lot of repurposed beads in several colors and quite a few bibs and bobs. So I decided to make more earrings in that same style but in different colors.

Here is a pair in Marble, I love these (I love marble!).
These beads I got at end of last year. I wanted to make something sparkly for the New Year, but my case of jewelers block prevented me from making anything in time.

Finally these retro beads I got a few weeks ago. They are a funky shade of green, I hope to use them in other creations soon.

I have a lot of other beads I could use to make more earrings in this style but the ends have been hard for me to find. I’ll keep an eye out though! The most frustrating part is that many times I do not have enough beads to make more than one pair. I have enough to make a couple of silver and green pairs, but the marble, and the two previous ones I published (purple and black/white) they are the only ones I can make.

So when I say your earrings are one of a kind I mean it!

A Few Of My Favorite Things!

Three pearls in a pod

SOLD OUT!

This may be my new favorite pair of earrings. I’ve had the jewelry equivalent of writer’s block for over a month and last night I decided to start messing around (which is how some of my best work happens) and I made three new pairs. This is by far the best of the three.

SOLD OUT!

I have accumulated lots of beads since I started this journey. This pair is made of repurposed beads I’ve had since the start and beads I just recently acquired. They consist of three types of round beads. A large pearl (faux of course) on the bottom, a medium silver bead in the middle, and a smallish hematite bead at the top.

Until last night this pair had been my favorite. I often wear them out trying to show off my stock. I think these are amazing but I am a bit biased I suppose.

Either of these favs can be yours. The price is right so grab them while you can. Unfortunately I only have enough of the pearls to make this one pair, so the lucky lady to purchase them can be assured her earrings are one of a kind.

Amethyst

I’m sorry, I haven’t made anything new in months. I think I was so excited about making new things for Christmas that by time Christmas came and went I had exhausted all of my ideas and was actually exhausted. But I found some new beads a few days ago and even made a pair yesterday so maybe I’m getting back in the swing of things.

Fortunately, I have several items in the backlog that I never published or put up on the Etsy page. Like these for example.

And actually it worked out perfectly since the birthstone for February is Amethyst and these are a similar shade of purple.

Only one pair available

PHI

Ф

Some of my relatives and friends belong to social organizations which contains the Greek letter above. Their colors are Black and White which is why I am calling this design Phi.

I don’t really know what my inspiration was for this design. I think one night I drew a bunch of concepts and then a few days later tried to make them with the materials I had on hand. I have a few Black and White designs I’m working on but I was really intrigued by these. I even wore them on a night out a while back.

This design is made of recycled plastic and repurposed beads and spacers.

Of course the combinations of Black and White are not exclusive to those organizations. The classic combination is a necessity for every lady’s wardrobe and accessory closet.

Blue Pearl

Happy New Year!!!

I hope you had a wonderful holiday. We had a quiet one. Since my last post I’ve had a birthday, I won’t admit which one but I like to call it π x 11.141 – you can do the Math. We also had an immigration hearing which we just found out was ruled in our favor. So we’re pretty stoked!
But after the past few weeks of chaos I need to get back in creativity mode. Fortunately for me, while sorting all the earrings I realized I had a few designs that I never published. These earrings are two of the firsts I made when I started in the late summer.
I bought two jars full of necklaces and bracelets made of retro beads. I dismantled the strands and started making earrings from the beads. Right away I made this pair. It’s a simple design, classic even.

The second design I wanted to have some customer interaction to finish. I was letting my creative juices flow when I realized I only had enough of the beads to make one pair. Unfortunately I had two designs in mind. So my idea was to put it to my audience to help me finish. Whoever purchases this pair can chose how the pair will be. Talk about one of a kind jewelry! [Will be sold with large bead on the bottom]
